Alabama Immigration Bill Frustrating Doctors, Regulators
From Montgomery's WSFA:
Licensing boards in Alabama have faced some difficulty in complying with the state's tough anti-illegal immigration law.
"It's been a nightmare" said Larry Dixon, the Executive Director of the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners.
Dixon said because of the way the language in the law was phrased,
all licenses that are distributed need to go to individuals who have
verified legal immigrant status. Specifically, the issues have to do
with doctors who have come to Alabama from around the world.
The Medical Examiners Board has sent out 16,000 letters to
individuals who will have to prove their citizenship with the
organization. Dixon said the board had to return 500 letters to doctors
who attempted to comply with the law but made some kind of error.

Alabama Immigration law Now Hitting Medical Profession
From Huffington Post's Elise Foley:
Some Alabama physicians and physician assistants were surprised this
week to receive a letter with a new demand from the Alabama Board of
Medical Examiners: Show us your papers.
Under the state's 2011 immigration law, these medical professionals
are now required to prove they are U.S. citizens or in the country
legally to maintain their licenses to practice, according to the letter, dated May 16.
Given the severe shortage of doctors in rural areas in Alabama, it's unbelievable that this is now the official welcome international medical graduates are getting.
